STATUS QUO
written in 2003. Med. up Swing for full big band. Based on a 13-bar bass line. Various lines and sections are introduced until they cumulate in a tutti. The middle section is a med.slow ballad with an alto saxophone solo and brass backgrounds. The final section resumes the beginning section and ends in a collective blowing over a 4-bar loop. The downloadable audio sample is from a live recording at the Jazzwerkstatt Wien 2006 featuring the festival's big band under the direction of Stefan Heckel.

BLACK FEATHER
written 2005 for MOSAIC. Focus is on the melody, which falls in semitones after an initial jump.There's bitonality between Emaj and Dbmaj. The groove shifts between half time feel and speed jungle. The recording is from the current CD of MOSAIC (Angela Tröndle-voc, Tino Czihak-b, Philipp Kopmaier-dr, Sigi Brecher-sax, Stefan Heckel-p) and features the out chorus only.
